Migration from one host to another

indextode / 2010-10-01 15:11:41

A friend created an indexibit site for me on his host and it works fine. We want to run the site however, on a different host (godaddy). He copied all of the files/directories over to my host, and I ran the installer with the new host parameters using instructions found elsewhere in the forums. The installer reported that everything was OK. However, when we bring up the site, none of the images or panel colors are present, so clearly, it's not working. These are important life cycle issues for anyone who wants to maintain a site! How do I back up and restore an indexibit site, and how do I migrate it to another host? Step by step instructions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

arsondpi A, if you mean the site URLs, I have left out that detail because I do not have permission from the builder nor the site owner to post their identities in this forum. I have searched all of the forums and the only person ever to ask about migration appears to be ... me, so this appears to be a general issue that's simply not yet been explored. The only reference to backup I found is where one person once said, it's a good idea to back up your site. However, since the copy we made constitutes a backup and it's not working, more instructions are needed. Regards, indextode

...guys you don't have a link back to indexhibit or an address...? Did you read the forum rules?

Yes, I read the rules and I certainly want to support the forum goals. I am happy to assure that credit appears on the site, when the site is finished. I will ask for permission to post the address in the forum. Nadia and I are not seeking special treatment we are asking about something that fits under general documentation and life cycle maintenance that would benefit everyone.

I just found this thread about "moving" under customize: http://www.indexhibit.org/forum/thread/769/
I can't understand anything being said in there.

Permission? It's your website isn't it? ;)
Isn't there anything here that can help?
