Install to a secondary domain

Hey folks,

I've seen this question come up a few times on the forums already but haven't found an answer that seems to work.

Here's my issue.

I'm building a new site for somebody who already has a site built with indexhibit and am not sure how to reinstall indexhibit to the new domain.

Currently, the new domain exists within the root folder. I just created a new database, but I'm not really sure what to do from here?

Help! Thanks!

Sorry. What I meant to say was that the new domain has its own folder that sits within the root folder of the old site.

Hello
I typed "moving server" in the forum search box and found two helpful threads on the top of the result list...

There is no need to create a second database. Just get a fresh install of indexhibit from the downloads section --> edit your defaults.php (change the table prefix)--> upload the Files in your indexhibit folder to the folder your domain points to.
Go to yourdomain/ndxz-studio/install.php --> follow the installation instructions.
This has been done before ;)

Ok great. Good to know that I don't need that database. A few things:

1.What edit do I need to make to the defaults.php?

2.The subdomain's folder doesn't seem to have a file folder (which I believe is necessary to install indexhibit?)

Do you I change the defaults.php on the copy of indexhibit that is already installed or on the copy that I have freshly downloaded?

Do your edits on the copy you have freshly downloaded.
All you have to do before you install the second indexhibit, is to change the database prefix on line 19 to the one you want
  1. define('PX', 'yourprefix_');
upload the Files in your indexhibit folder to the folder your domain points to

...with folder i mean the folder on your server. I think your subdomain points to a folder.

if this is your domain http://something.adress.com
it points to a subfolder on your webspace like this /rootfolder/yoursubfolder
just place your fresh installation in there.

Ok great. The last question I have is in the installation tutorial, one of the steps is to find the 'files' and 'gimgs' folders and change their permissions to 777. However, my subdomain's folder does not have it's own file folder? I'm assuming it uses the one in the root folder? Is there anything in particular I have to do in regards to this? Can I just bypass this step in the installation?

Thanks.

I'm sorry but I still do not understand what I need to change the prefix to? Could you be a little more clear? Thanks!

  1. 'yourprefix_'

It's not clear that it can be anything you want? Your prefix...make it up.

It's easier simply to use a second database though...not sure why this thread needs to be this long.

Vaska:

Obviously, it was not clear to me that the prefix could be anything I wanted. I'm truly sorry that my need for help was of such inconvenience to you.

Regardless, thanks for your response. Hopefully I can get this working.

Vaska A / 2010-12-08 00:58:15

What? I'm making it clear...how was I inconvenienced?

What I didn't like was that there was a much easier answer that was not offered from the beginning. I always try to keep it as simple as possible so as to avoid explaining things on top of things...

Vaska. My apologies. I misread you being helpful as you being sarcastic.

This thread has been closed, thank you.
