Indexhibit doesn't upload pictures

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 03:30:59

Good morning!

I've created sa new album inside one of the categories. I tried to upload a picture but it doesn't work. It doesn't give me any error, just nothing happens. BUT! If I try to upload the picture inside one of the existing albums, the pictures appears!!! It works, but not in the new album ;(

Why is that?

Thanks to help me in advance!

ps. I made the donation :) Thanks for this platform!

Thanks for the donation - much appreciated. ;)

How big is your image? It makes no sense at all that it works for one but not the other - it's simply a program and doesn't distinguish things like that.

I think your image is rather big and on the edge of what the server can handle or the server is simply very busy and you need to wait a little bit (I have to do this on our own server occasionally).

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 09:20:36

The picture is 72dpi 1024px 615kb (basically as the same that I already have in my website). It doesn't make any sense since the picture that I'm trying to upload is also one that is already in the website. I tried with images that I already have, new images, I tried to upload from google chrome, firefox, a jpg, a png... and nothing works. Indexhibit just detects it in the existing categories, not in the new ones, which doesn't allow me to update my portfolio.

It can't be the server as I have 100GB of space just upgraded 1 week ago. Plus the image uploads in existing categories but no in the new one.

I have no idea what this can be :(

No, it does not.

There is something going wrong with the server. If it works for one exhibit it should work for another.

Hi Vaska,

thanks for the quick reply. Yes I know, but I'm not lying, this is what is going on with it and I don't know why.
If you want, you can try to upload it in my website so you can see what's going on!

midge218 / 2011-04-07 10:35:23

i had the same problem

Vaska A / 2011-04-07 10:46:33

You 'had'. And then what? Care to be more helpful and elaborate? You mean the thread you never responded to where I pointed out that you simply can't upload 4mb images via script?

It can't work for one exhibit and not the other - makes no sense at all - unless the server can't handle the image or is unstable.

615kb image is pushing what your server can handle. It might work once, but it won't necessarily work twice.

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 10:58:18

My images, indeed, are less than 1mb.

I understand you can't work on one's indexhibit but I'd like to get some help with this. My web programmer (who installed everything + plugins, made the design...) can't understand what's going on. She tried to find the problem but is not the server, not the images. Maybe is just a Indexhibit bug? Could it be?

If you want me to send screenshoots I can do as long as this helps to solve the problem as it's pretty urgent to update the porfolio.

Many thanks.

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 11:04:46

Sorry, all the images are 464kb (I just checked it)

I think the weight is not the problem, otherwise indexhibit wouldn't upload it in the existing categories.

Vaska A / 2011-04-07 11:30:38

464kb is still very big. Weight is the problem.

Images work best on shared server setups when the are 150kb and less. The servers need alot of power to process the images - the bigger they are the more power is required.

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 11:45:21

Hi Vaska,

This make sense, however, how do you explain that it uploads the same picture in all other categories that are already working and no in the new one? This makes me think that is not a server problem but an issue in my indexhibit web.

Please, it has to be a way we can solve this.

Vaska A / 2011-04-07 12:14:20

Try other images. No, there is nothing inside of Indexhibit that discerns the uploads by section (now I have said this three times).

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 12:24:01

I tried different images, different sizes, in different categories and with different names, extensions etc.
(now I have said this 4 times)

Vaska A / 2011-04-07 13:37:22

Start over then...never seen somebody have the problem you are having and it's clear that something isn't right and your images are too big. This isn't the kind of problem that a script produces.

Of course, Indexhibit doesn't discern between sections and pages for uploads...

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 15:53:51

Ok. I did. With an image 100kb.

Create new category
Browse a photo
upload

NOTHING HAPPENS

But if I follow same steps but inside an existing category, it works.

Please, we are 2 people trying this from different comptures, the webmaster and me and is not working. It can´t be the size as its 100kb and it works for other categories. Please, I´d appreciate if you can have a look at it. I made a donation because I appreciate your work, but in return I was expecting a little bit of comprehension and not "images are too big" over and over again because this is not the problem. There is a bug and I´d like to fix it. If you think or you don´t want to help me, just say it and I´ll stop wasting your and my time.

Thanks.

aliciarius / 2011-04-07 15:54:19

* comptures = computers (sorry)

composita / 2011-04-08 06:38:29

We had the same problem this morning. According to our server-admin we had accidentally thrown away the tmp-file.

Now it's working perfect again.

Maybe you should install indexhibit again ?!

Vaska A / 2011-04-08 06:51:56

Yes, a missing or messed up tmp file could do that - but you should never be touching that. And, the server needs that more than Indexhibit (it won't work at all if that file is not there - nothing will upload from any system).

aliciarius / 2011-04-08 08:41:35

Finally this morning the system gave me the following error:

Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg() [function.imagecreatefromjpeg]: gd-jpeg: JPEG library reports unrecoverable error: in/home/alicia2/public_html/ndxz-studio/lib/media.php on line 214

Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg() [function.imagecreatefromjpeg]: '/home/alicia2/public_html/files/gimgs//44455_test.jpg' is not a valid JPEG file in /home/alicia2/public_html/ndxz-studio/lib/media.php on line 214

Y tried more times and I did not have the error anymore. I checked out the FTP and the images appear in the FTP but under a weird code: 44448_chester.jpg while the rest of the galeries are 10_xxx.jpg 9_xxx.jpg etc

I hope this helps to figure out where the problem comes from. I think something is wrong in the FTP or insude our server? :S

Thanks!

aliciarius / 2011-04-08 11:27:48

Composita, thank you very much for your help. I just reinstalled the indexhibit and it works perfectly and I can upload pictures in the new section :)))) That was a simple and a very good idea.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mathis / 2013-09-07 10:10:48

The same problem, when clicking on 'upload', a new 'add files' window opens instead of uploading the selected image.

Indexibit, is there any way you can fix this bug?

Thank you.

arsondpi / 2013-09-07 11:32:21

Mathis what is your site? Are you using a Legacy version site or a Version 2?
Did you try uploading with another browser?

Mathis / 2013-09-08 16:43:12

Hi arsondpi,
thanks for getting back.

It's working now on safari, it didn't work on firefox.
