Installation for dummies

Hi,

I was hoping you might be able to help me figure out a problem I'm having in the install process. I've been through everything step-by-step, and got to the point of going to the page: http://www.yourwebsite.com/ndxz-studio/install.php (after having changed 'yourwebsite.com' to my domain name of course!) and I only get 'Server Not Found'.
Perhaps I am a little IT illiterate, but would this be a fault on behalf of the install process, or the host?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Sounds like a hosting issue, try to contact your host and ask them what´s up.

There's no need to be secretive about your domain. Most people round here won't help unless you give a link to your site. It could be that you've placed indexhibit in the wrong directory? When you look at the site's folders in ftp, it should go:

HTML > NDXZ-STUDIO, FILES, INDEX.PHP, etc...

Sorry - the domain name is philipparamsden.co.uk - I didn't realise that I hadn't put that in the message!

That may be the problem, so I have deleted indexhibit from cyberduck and re-downloaded it. There are currently 3 files there:
> cgi-bin (folder)
Home.html
>stats (folder)

I have asked the hosting site (iPage) what the root folder might be already, but one of my friends went through exactly the same process, and he just dropped the indexhibit folder below all of these files, and his seemed to work fine so I'm a little unsure what the problem may be here.

Thanks for all the advice though - really appreciate it!

well, it looks as if the place where the home.html is should be where you should have put your indexhibit, but I can't find any trace of it, not even the ndxz-studio/install.php

Dump the "indexhibit070e" folder in with cgi-bin etc.. Rename it "html" and delete your "home.html" page!

Clark, I've followed your advice and this time it's 'page not found' rather than 'server not found' - I really can't work out the problem here!
If you have any ideas at all I'd appreciate it! Thanks again

found it here: http://philipparamsden.co.uk/html/ndxz-studio/install.php

actually, unless there's some reason I'm unaware of, you may want to move everything you have under the folder html, up one level, so that once you get your site going you'll find it right under philipparamsden.co.uk/

Sorry Philippa, my mistake. Do what pernin says - lose the 'html' folder and it's contents ('ndxz-studio' etc..) loose at the same level as cgi-bin etc... That'll definitely work. Sorry to misdirect you!

In the Help section there is an installation tutorial.

I'm closing this thread because it's very old and pertains to the older version - you can continue with questions in a new thread.
