Problem with Splash page

alex0206 / 2011-07-08 18:00:39

Hi

i try to make a plash page with this help (thread 66)

"
1. rename the 'index.php' file in the base directory to 'home.php'
2. create an 'index.html' page (this will be the first/splash page) and be sure to include a link to 'home.php' (indexhibit & the internal pages of your site)
3. alter the last line in the '.htaccess' file, replacing 'index.php' with 'home.php' (you may find it easier to do this locally, then upload and rename the file to start with a '.')
"

But i don't understand, it doesn't work.
When i do it, my page is totally white, there is nothing.
By the way, if I name the splash page index.php and not index.html, the splash page appears but the link does not work, i see "Error 404 - Not found"

I don't understand, someone can help me please ?

Thanks a lot

I would leave the index.php with it's name and only add an index.html in the root
this works most of the times.
when you see a white page that is maybe because you didn't write anything into your index.html...
;-)

I try to clean url but it doesn't work
;(
Please help me.

pernin / 2011-07-12 15:28:37

what ricky meant is that you should read the forum rules (in red in the forum): it's really impossible to help without having an address to look at what's actually happening (that's an url. your website address) ;-)

alex0206 / 2011-07-12 15:30:56

Ah ok sorry !!!

My website :

www.alexandrapraud.com

Thank you so much, i'm french, i'm very bad in english so i try to understand :)

rickykappa / 2011-07-12 16:24:32

ok, where is the index.html?

if you type http://www.alexandrapraud.com/index.html
you'll get the following message from the server:
Multiple Choices
The document name you requested (/index.html) could not be found on this server. However, we found documents with names similar to the one you requested.

Available documents:

* /index.php (common basename)

try again!
;-)

Ok, i just "re" did it for you :)

So i changed index.php to home.php
I create a new index.html with this text :

My First Heading

ici

My first paragraph.

and in the htaccess i changed index.php to home.php

And you can see, there is nothing :(

I'm clear ?

Thanks you so much

rickykappa / 2011-07-13 01:39:17

oh my god... thankyou alex for being so kind with me, but...
nothing has changed, you are right, because you are probably working locally (in your own computer).
there is no index.html online.
at least is not where it should be, http://www.alexandrapraud.com/index.html
but do me another favour, reupload a clean, original htaccess file as well, let's start from the beginning
;-)

alex0206 / 2011-07-13 05:38:24

Hello

I don't understand, what happens? :(
My site works well without the changes to make a splash page.
And i tried again and again to make a splash page.
What should i do ?

Thank you so so so much !!
;)

rickykappa / 2011-07-13 08:35:29

a question arises in my mind: what do you need a splash page for?
;-)

alex0206 / 2011-07-13 09:10:33

Hi

You can see a little animation when you go on my website, but i would like that this flash animation will be on a splash page

:-)

rickykappa / 2011-07-13 10:06:50

so why don't you create and upload in your root an index.html page?
normally you don't need to do anything else (i.e. no htacces editing), so if you have changed something there, reupload a new, fresh copy of htaccess and upload as well a simple index.html.
er... I think I've said that already?

alex0206 / 2011-07-14 10:20:58

Sorry i don't understand what do you want to say.
Can you explain me with more details please?

I just want to have an splash page with a flash animation.
I tried the explanation in the thread 66 but it doesn't work and i don't understand why !!
There isn't an other solution to make a splash page ?

I'm desperate ;(
Thank you

blameme / 2011-07-15 03:06:52

What Ricky is saying is that probably you can just upload an index.html (which is your splash page) without doing anything else.
To say it another way, if you had a clean installation of indexhibit and have not made any changes to the htaccess or changed the name of index.php, then you can probably just upload an index.html file as your splash page. Try it.

rickykappa / 2011-07-15 10:45:50

@alex, for me it's really frustrating reading this thread from the beginning...
I keep telling you things trying to be clear - yes, I've also joked a bit, why not? - and it seems to me that you don't read my words, you keep telling me what you think is the problem and don't listen to what I've told you.
everytime somebody else (thanks @guys! ;-) need to come in and explain my words to you.
so, please, don't be desperate, just read: there is a meaning!
did you change your htacces?
if yes > reupload a new fresh copy
if no > it's ok
the above means that you should go back to the previous, original settings
do you know how to write an index.html?
if yes > make one and upload it to your root
if no > a good how to
the above means that you should be already done with your splash page!
I want to see it here: http://www.alexandrapraud.com/index.html !
;-)

alex0206 / 2011-07-15 20:41:22

Ok, i'm sorry, i tried what blameme said, just a page index.html, i put it on my cyberduck, on the rubric ndxz-studio, and site, and monstyle and it didn't work. I didn't touch the htaccess

@ Ricky, i'm very sorry but i'm french and i speak english very very bad, i think that's why there are misunderstandings.

I try to read your word, i made all the handlings you told me but it didn't work, i think there is problem in my code and i don't know where and i don't know what i have to do..

So i changed the .htacces only when i made the handling (thread 66).
And i know how write an index.html

So i don't understand ;(

Thanks you

pernin / 2011-07-16 01:39:35

alex: you need to put the index.html in your root, that's the level above the ndxz-studio folder, where you have the htaccess

alex0206 / 2011-07-19 07:22:31

Thanks Pernin and all of you
I finally got it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much :)
