Deleted Index.html

Hey all,
I haven't edited my site in some time, and I went to sort it out and I accidentally deleted my index.html file. My site [ jenniferbabey.co.uk ] currently just shows index/ cbi... etc. I have no backup of this file and I dunno where to start in order to get things going again... I know I can create a new file, but I can't remember the contents or how I even created my original file.

I have tried putting in some basic html and the type just came up on my homepage. I am useless at all HTML, and I think I have lost everything that I had up [a portfolio of art work]??

Any help would be appreciated. I am a complete noob.

it's no biggie, download a fresh copy of indexhibit and copy over the index.php to its place in your root -- and be careful to copy the right index.php: there's several of them in different folders, and they are all different in spite of having the same name

sorry, just re-read your post and did some checking, and see you say you deleted the index.html. if you have indexhibit, then you don't have an index.html file. i checked your site and it seems as if you mean you deleted the whole indexhibit ;-/

in that case it gets tricky, you'll have to contact your host and see if they have a backup from before you deleted it. if they don't, and you don't have a backup either, then you are out of luck and will have to reinstall and recreate your site

It does seem that my whole Indexhibit has completely gone - I did not delete all of this. I will contact my host with biggest hope they have back up.

However, if there is no back up. Where do I start- A friend set me up a couple of years ago with indexhibit and I do not know where to begin to start. From the very beginning of indexhibit? [I'll follow tutorials etc if I have to ].

Thank you for helping. I really should have tried harder to understand all this.

well, in case your host doesn't have a backup, follow the instructions in the menu here at the left: "how to install" > "how to install for dummies" -- you shouldn't need a friend to help you, but if you've got one at hand... ;-)

you'll always have to read tutorials and learn something about coding, at least to have a vague idea of what you are doing, and how much you have to learn will depend on how much you want to do beyond the very basic

after installing: in the menu there's help and tutorials as well as the useful threads in red in the forum, lots of questions already answered there. I'd strongly recommend reading the html/css basics in the useful threads -- i'll even recommend doing this even if you get your site back on from a host's backup, for all the reasons above

good luck, and keep us posted :-)

They didn't have a backup.
Thanks for the pointers. I know some basics, but this will be one steep learning curve for me [no friend at hand anymore].

Will also back up in future.

I'm sure you will see me posting here soon.

Got it running perfectly with help from host too. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction, would not have been able to do it without you!
