Change image in menu with mouseover

easy / 2008-07-30 15:59:18

Hi, here´s my bloody newbie question, after
my search on the web and in this forum:

Firstly I have to reinstall indexhibit, so i can´t
link right now to the site, but I attached some
pictures to show my concept of the website.

The first picture is the menu only without
images (home directory).
I would like to change the background-image
of the menu, while hovering over the project-list.
For example:
Project A should be linked to the black image. (2nd image)
Project B should be linked to the image with the
green balls. (3rd image)
On the 4th image there is no image in the menu,
beacuse as soon as a link is clicked, the content
on the right side appears.

So, my questions are:
1. Is it possible to do this with Indexhibit?
2. If yes, does it have to be edited in the style.css
or somewhere else (where)?
3. Is the "a:hover" the right path to choose to
implement some code?

Thanks a lot for this georgeus piece of software and the help!

Just link to the images...you can't show images in the forum.

ok, next try with direct links to the images:

image 1
image 2
image 3
image 4

thanks a lot!

1. Yes.
2. style.css and maybe some javascript and maybe in your template
3. This is not a simple answer.

Thanks for the quick answer, Vaska!

I wish I could help out on everything around here but I can only really get involved with things if it's easy and fast for me. That being said, if you try to do this...post back here when you get stuck and myself or others may be able to help.

Have a look at the forum rules...it's stated that we do want people to try and to learn around here. We'll try our best to help out when people go for it.

It would be nice and somewhat unique use of Indexhibit too. ;)

I´ll give it a try ...

Snoep...the author should try first and post back here. I really don't want this place to become a space to order up customizations. Seriously...there are alot of people around here who could do this in 5 mins...but that's not our job.

Hey Vaska,

I looked the forum rules up before posting this thread :)
That´s also a reason why I just wanted to know of someone
more experienced than me, if it makes sense for me to invest
time and energy in this mouseover/image-concept-thing in
combination with indexhibit.

I will try to find a way and post my results later.

Thanks for the Feedback!

... don´t wanted to be to quick! I am just interested in learning all that ...

snoep / 2008-07-30 17:02:50

... but I undertand you, Vaska.

I feel like I'm prattling on a bit but here I go...

I helped out for years in what used to be the largest PHP programming forum on the web. I've answered thousands of questions and helped out on many problems. I mostly helped people start from nothing...and I still sometimes recieve notes from people thanking me for everything I did to help them turn into real, paid programmers today.

I wrote tutorials as well just for newbs for a time. People made fun of me but since they periodically end up on Digg and are linked from some amazing places I think they served their purpose well.

People need to think...about their questions...about the answers they recieve...and piece things together. The more they do this the better they will get at solving more complicated problems. And then one day, you will realize, that you can solve nearly any problem and then things really start to happen.

I don't want to teach everybody here how to be a programmer, but html is not so difficult. If you can use Adobe Illustrator then you can deal with html...css...and some javascript if need be.

However, I do get notes from Indexhibit users not just loving the cms but also thankful because there was enough of whatever needed to be there that they were able to figure out how to customize things on their own and/or with some help from the forum. This is very gratifying for us.

Trying and doing is best. Solving the problems for people teaches them nothing. If I see a person trying I will try to teach them. If I see a person just asking for me to solve their problem I'm not very motivated. Around here installation and bug issues are our first priority...and then everything else as best as we can. There are some others besides myself who have alot of skill to help you get through things.

So, let's all try together.

easy, this post is no reflection on you...it's just where it ended up. Maybe I'll turn this into a general announcement post in here later...

I'm closing this thread because I have completely derailed it from it's original subject. ;)

This thread has been closed, thank you.
