local install of indexhibit /mamp

Hi all. I have just started to explore indexhibit, therefore complete newbie. I'm trying to install locally on the mac (os 10.5.8) and having problems. I have tried this from forum member G470:

"localhost:9999 = your database Server
root = database user
root = database password
yourdatabase = database name

... that´s it :)

Still getting this reply: We cannot connect or install the database.

I've tried with localhost, localhost:8888, 8889 and 9999. The install doesnt seem to find the database, which is in the default Mamp location at ...Mamp/db/mysql as far as I can see. I know a lot of people have successfully managed this but cant find out how, neither from this forum, googling or the Mamp forum. Any ideas?

Your database password is likely not 'root'.

As far as I can see, 'root' is the default user and password. I have not changed them.
This is from the mamp start page:

To connect to the MySQL Server from your own scripts use the following connection parameters:
Host     localhost
Port     8889
User     root
Password     root

I'll continue getting used to Indexhibit online, as you clearly intended it. The idea of using it locally with mamp seemed like a good idea at the time but perhaps there are too many obstacles.

regards

Owen.

We don't support MAMP because it has a variety of setup issues.

I have gotten things to run on MAMP just fine after getting throught all the PHP.ini issues - but it's been many years and I can't remember what I did.

10.5.8?

;)

10.5.8?

Yes. Is that bad?

10.5.8 should be ok. But, I don't know much about getting MAMP working (although I've done it before).

The first thing you should try is enabling output of error messages. Then, hopefully, you can get some idea about what is going wrong.
