Can't upload images

lucycbloomfield / 2011-12-11 06:44:19

For the last 48hours I have been unable to upload any images to my site: www.lucybloomfield.com. I can amend text, add new text, delete folders but cannot upload any new jpg files.

After speaking with my web hosting provider - they can assure me there have been no changes/issues with my server and my site is operating fine their end. It was suggested it could be a file permissions issue with indexhibit...

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? My boyfriend's indexhibit site had problems like this last year and it couldn't be fixed so came of indexhibit altogether and built a new site! I really don't want to go through the same trauma...

Thanks
Lucy

File permissions are not an Indexhibit issue - that's on you and your host - we can't and don't have control over that. Turn on your FTP app and deal with it.

Something WAS changed at the host - what was it? Hosts often don't know what is really going nor do most of them put much effort trying to help.

Is the database corrupt? Are there permissions issues? Is the TMP directory good? Is your account out of space? These are all on the server...

Is something wrong with your images? Are they too big?

Have you tried other browsers (perhaps it's a caching issue)? Have you damaged Indexhibit system files? Etc...etc...

This is always fixable - there is no reason for people to reinstall their site over something like this.

Vaska is so right:

curiously enough, while www.lucybloomfield.com takes me to the website, lucybloomfield.com defaults to a 'not found' webhosting company of sorts, which I expect is your hosting company (otherwise, the host may've been hacked)

this spells to me host/server issues

Right, so now I have contradictory answers and not having the experience in this area, don't really understand what you're suggesting I do next.

I will go back to the hosting company but if they continue to say as previous, where does that leave me?

How would I have damaged indexhibit files? I have tried on another browser which hasn't helped.

What do you mean by 'Turn on your FTP app and deal with it.'?? I upload straight onto the site so don't have an ftp app...

Thanks for your help.

We are giving you the clearest answers we can.

FTP applications is how you get files to your server - they can control permissions. The same as when you installed Indexhibit in the first place.

You will only get contradictory things from your host - like so many of them, you pay them but they don't care. Something happened on the server though...

I have suggested a list of things that you should look into.

Despite what you have said, there are alot of threads around here on this topic already - and you will see that for the most part, people do resolve the issue. Unfortunately, there certainly are situations where people don't have enough skill or patience to get to that point though.

I will post again if and when I get some answers...

You can't rely upon the host (eventhough you are paying them).

You can dig into your hosting control panel and use FTP to trouble shoot all of these things - many threads already about these things exist here.

This thread has been closed, thank you.
