Trouble with vimeo

plocploc / 2012-06-07 07:51:12

Hello

YEsterday I made some upload with the vimeo plugin. No problem.

So before sleeping I sent some new videos to vimeo in order to put them in my website.

This morning (in France) I did the same manipulation but suddenly the video doesn't show up and instead my website is telling me

"b>Warning: getimagesize(/homez.9/atravers/www/files/gimgs/th-15_43565012.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homez.9/atravers/www/ndxzsite/plugin/format.visual_index.php on line 489

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /homez.9/atravers/www/ndxzsite/plugin/format.visual_index.php:489) in /homez.9/atravers/www/index.php on line 166

I thought it might be a problem with thumbnails; I tried differents solutions but still doesn't want to work ?

Do you have any idea ?
Thanks

difficult to say, as it apparently works sometimes. Is it too big, IIRC Vaska said something about servers having a limit around 2 MB for video. Could you give us an an address to the vimeo film so we can test ourselves?

Thanks answering me Pernin

I think it's not a question of weight because the one which worked yesterday was approximately the same size.

Anyway here is a link if you want to try :

vimeo.com/…

Please let me know

pernin / 2012-06-07 09:18:41

nope, no problems:
indexhibit.bagofcats.net/project/visual-index/

visual index has the vimeo uploaded with the vimeo tool (didn't give it right dimensions, just default)
embed vimeo with emebed code inside the exhibit with text processing enabled (default)
embed vimeo tp disabled, same as above but with text processing disabled

maybe you had a server hiccup?

plocploc / 2012-06-07 09:45:58

Pernin, thank you

But still doesn't work with me
Trying to upload the same video is doing a real mess
here

Hiccup is a funny word I didn't know but what can I do about that (my server usually supports video with no problem)

aymericvergnon.net/index.php/cinema/ligature/

Sorry the link insert is not working

pernin / 2012-06-07 10:06:14

hiccup, temporary glitch... servers are not created equal, so I don't know what you can do, it may simply a question of my server being better or less overloaded than yours?

with a long process because of a a big file, the server is receiving other requests at the same time, a time-out or hold up in the process can give an error and the upload/processing breaks down -- mind you, I'm just guessing, as I can't reproduce the error to test, but the error seems to point towards the process breaking down during the creation of the thumbnail, which makes me think the file is too heavy for your server

can you embed vimeo directly?

does it work to upload another vimeo (a smaller one)?

plocploc / 2012-06-07 10:17:33

I got the same problem with a smaller one !

can you embed vimeo directly?
What to do for this ?

And still have no problem with a video (same size) which was previously on vimeo.

pernin / 2012-06-07 10:26:37

in vimeo: click on the share icon and you'll get a screen where there's an embed iframe code. Copy that code and paste it directly into the text area of your exhibit. You can paste just the iframe code, if you don't want the rest

plocploc / 2012-06-07 10:47:01

Yes embed code works perfectly

but it's not an elegant solution !

pernin / 2012-06-07 10:57:46

I don't mean it as a soultion, just eliminating suspects.

So, this confirms there's something wonky with the vimeo file processing, because direct embed doesn't create thumbnails

just how big are these vimeo files that break down?

plocploc / 2012-06-07 11:09:59

Thanks taking time to help me !

For the biggest one (the one you tried on your website)
The compressed vidéo is # SD .MP4 file (640x480 / 15MB)
the original was # Original .MP4 file (640x480 / 51MB)

I followed the compression recommandations of Vimeo

The other one (which doesn't work neither) is

* SD .MP4 file (640x360 / 6MB)
* Original .MP4 file (640x360 / 18MB)

pernin / 2012-06-07 11:33:54

As I said, the server's got to work with it, if your server's got a lot of other work (you share it with other users), then 15 MB can be too much. It may be able to process that when it's the only thing it doing, but with several competing requests it may panic and go sit in a corner and cry ;)

Unless someone else has a different idea, I don't know what could be done, as it seems it's server dependent (apart for paying for a dedicated server...)

plocploc / 2012-06-07 11:49:53

Ok I sent to our friend of vimeo the shortest video I have ever made : 1,35Mb original size

Don't tell me that my powerful french server will panic, otherwise I purchase it to the corner...

I'll let you know when vimeo will finish its process

All the best and again thank you !

pernin / 2012-06-07 12:08:14

I agree, it doesn't sound right, embedding 15 or 50 MB video is nothing, really... if it's the server that doesn't like creating thumbs of videos, maybe there's a way of editing the uploader so that it doesn't create thumbs, but uses a standard predifend grey or black, and replaced later

plocploc / 2012-06-07 12:38:20

Ok everything works if i upload a thumb !

It took a lot of time for a simple solution. I do apologize and thanks for helping me.

pernin / 2012-06-07 16:16:16

if you upload a thumb? what do you mean?

plocploc / 2012-06-07 19:28:03

Well I don't know what happened

I began to detach cover and attach an image from my local computer.
Then it worked.
And sometimes later I forgot to do this change of settings and I discovered that it works normally.
So maybe you were right : the server has a hiccup ! I learned a word but I wasted your time. Sorry about that.

pernin / 2012-06-07 19:31:44

nope, no time wasted: all servers are different (and so are all users), this is good to know ;) I'll mark this as resolved... so far ;)

plocploc / 2012-06-07 19:57:22

Well some videos still don't want to upload properly so I have to load a cover by myself.

something odd there. Maybe someone else can find a better solution or God himself (I mean you know who) will reemerge and tell us what to do.

Let's close this thread for the moment
