404 help!

Hello I have been searching the site relentlessly and have been making changes regarding the clean URL instructions but I am still getting a 404 not found page when I try to click on my exhibit/section.
I have tried to rename the htaccess file. Can you describe how this is done? can you do it within cyber duck. I changed the MODWRITE condition to true but don't know if I am renaming the htaccess file correctly. When I try to rename it i get a message saying "." is for the server.
so confused and not very well versed in this stuff. Please help!

Yes, you can (and must) add the "." to the name. You should be changing the name with your FTP app after it has been loaded to the server.

okay the .htaccess is in the files folder on the FTP app. I added the /
before index.php my server has mod_rewrite loaded. My pages still don't link anywhere.

Did you try it without the / first?

The rules for .htaccess can be a bit tricky - it's something that is beyond Indexhibit. Does your webhost provide any help with htaccess/mod_rewrite for virtual publishing?

These are the instructions that godaddy sent me:

"Mod_rewrite is an Apache Web server module installed on all of our Linux servers by default; it does not have to be installed or enabled. Our Linux hosting accounts support most mod_rewrite functions.
Because enabling mod_rewrite is handled at a global level, you do not need to enable it in your httpd.conf file. You only need to add the desired code to the body of your .htaccess file.
Our environment uses the vendor-provided code from Apache for mod_rewrite. Current Apache HTTPD documentation is accurate with regard to how to use .htaccess files."
and I tried it with out the /

If mod_rewrite worked with the older version it WILL work with the new - nothing was changed with that part of things. You need to check your .htaccess file, etc.

I'm having the same issue as well. I went through the process for clean urls and am still getting the 404 message. mcunn.com

Hey Malcolm,

Is mod_rewrite enabled in your server? Did you ask your host about it?
