Hello - I have had a good look and can't find the answer anywhere
- how do I have image captions just on the exhibit (when you click on the thumb/video in the grid) and not have them on the main page underneath the thumb?

Is it something in the visual index plugin?

Also when there are many tiles on the grid only 5 appear in a row then a new row starts - this was okay when there was a menu at the left but I don't want to menu, effectively the grid is the menu. What do I need to change so 7 or 8 appear in a row?

to do this you must customize the plugin (and thus code skills are needed)
Alternatively you can set Titles to Off so they don't appear.

As for the '7 or 8 thumbs in a row' just set the Visual index counter to 7 or 8...

-as a link to what?
-well make a link that takes you to your twitter page/account etc.
