How to reactivate my website? It's down (again) since i uploaded a new PDF

Two questions:

this problem happened to me two days ago and resolved itself... somehow, my website started to work again but today i just deleted old PDF files and tried to upload new ones and it simply jammed my whole website.
gabrieljones.net

someone wrote this (below), but will this procedure erase my current website??

Uploading or deleting a PDF will not take your site down - you are clearly deleting something you should not be deleting.

Hello Vaska

i understand but i simply did the procedure i usually did in the past. in the past it worked. i assure you i didn't delete anything besited old PDF files from the file management page.

plus i'm not sure the new PDF was uploaded since the system froze before i could save the new download link on my page.

Your site is working just fine for me...

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 14:29:36

hi vaska

alright, but, on my side i just tried with 3 different computers and 2 different browsers it can't open the webpage...

maybe its because you still have it in your chache since 2 days ago?

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 14:30:34

just to make sure we are both talking about the same website: gabrieljones.net/

I have never seen your site before today. It's working great for me...I even did a shift/browser refresh...still working great...

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 15:01:03

i asked two other friends to go on my website and they couldn't access it. they are all in france. but, a friend from germany could acess it.

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 15:04:59

ok now it's working...
but this whole phenomenon also happenned 2 days ago.

i'm afraid this will happen if i try to update my downloadable portfolio (PDF). i know i'm not deleting anything wrong since i am using the pop up window tha manages files. i simply deleted old PDF and tried to upload new ones... can you help me with this?

i discovered two bizare elements.

1. i am currently trying to save a new link for my PDF on my "CV Resume" page. The "save" button does not work on the "CV resume" page. but when i ad the link for the same PDF portfolio, on my "press review" page, the "save" button works and the PDF is available.

2. the secontd thing is that when i go on my stats, i can see all these weird russian websites reffering to my website, one of them being a online medication webstite for cialis. would it be possible that i have some kind of virus?

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 15:56:41

hello vaska

ok now its down again... it was working fine besides that "CV resume" page and now 15 minutes after... it suddenly stopped working.

Vaska A / 2012-11-26 15:57:43

but this whole phenomenon also happenned 2 days ago.

Sounds like a router caching or DNS issue - very difficult things to deal with (and not Indexhibit issues).

1. This sounds like a browser caching issue - simply shift + browser refresh. There is no reason why it would discriminate.

2. This is called referrer spam and is unfortunately common around the web these days. It doesn't hurt your site. This is part of the reason why Indexhibit 2 completely reworked statistics...

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 16:16:35

1. what do you mean by "simply shift + browser refresh" ?

2. how can i go to the indexhibit 2 ? do i need to redo my website?

3. do you see that it's not working at the moment?

Vaska A / 2012-11-26 16:22:53

Your site loads up just fine for me even right now.

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-26 16:38:59

It is now clear that every time i click on the "save" button on my "CV resume" page this same reaction happens:

the website shuts down for a small period of time and then reactivates itself (by the time you recieve my message its back up)

if you could go in my "CV resume" page and try to do the same procedure, you would see the problem when you click on the "save" button. and then 15 minutes later my website will stop working. the pdf that you tried saving will not be saved.

here's the procedure: simply replace the current PDF portfolio with the new version. they are both uploaded already you simply need to change the title of the files inside the links.

the new pdf title is: "GABRIELJONES-DossierArtistique-2-Eng-20121126-OK.pdf"

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-27 12:13:13

i tried creating a new page to replace the problematic CV page with the disfuctionnal "save" button.

this new page has a working "save" button but the text does not appear when you visit my website's CV page.

it is "on" and the page is not hidden. can you help me please?

gabriel4430 / 2012-11-27 12:25:43

it is solved: this might help someone.

- i turned off the "weird" page.
- quickly changed my password
- deleted the bad CV page.

it took three attempts to delete it. i had to erase the whole text, then turn the page back "on" and then "off"(this is an alternative to save the page when the "save" button does not work), and then click on the trash button.

and now the new CV page works well.
