Parse error: syntax error

adeline / 2013-01-30 13:10:23

Hello,I ve been looking around on the forum and can't find any solution :
my website worked well until I got "internal error"message, when I would refresh it would work.
I did what I was told to on the forum, checked index php and the htaccess I even replace it by a new one but it keeps saying : " Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /homez.650/adelinemt/www/ndxzstudio/lib/cache.php on line 5 " when I try to go on the website or even on the editing page to login. I tried to reupload the cache from the original indexhibit but it does not work.
my website : adelinemai.com

Ok I reuploaded different files and now it just keep saying internal error from time to time the homepage would work, some other time not.
any idea why?
thanks!

Bonjour Adeline,
It's working fine for me.

adeline / 2013-01-30 14:28:34

Thank you. I now get sometimes 500 internal error but only sometime. from a minute to another it will do that.
I saw on the forum that I should contact my host, which I did (ovh) and they told me the permissions 777 was forbiden and I should do 755 or 705. Will it mess up my website even more?
thank you

755 is actually better than 777. It's good...

adeline / 2013-02-01 14:17:22

it's weird it's still doing it sometimes, do you know where it comes from?
thanks

arsondpi / 2013-02-01 14:31:45

Most likely from your host. Have you told/asked them?

adeline / 2013-02-01 14:47:24

Yes I did, I called them and they say they dont know, just that 777 was not allowed (i changed it ) but it s still working weirdly

Looking back at the forum, in most cases, a 500 error means server problems.
From just a simple search: indexhibit.org/forum/thread/17164/

Nice work Adeline. I'm clicking through most of your site and am not having any problems...

Does this happen alot?

adeline / 2013-02-01 17:52:08

Arsonpi, thanks I looked before, and that s why i asked, because I already called my host.
Thanks Vaska! it happens i would say 1 on 3 times, and if I refresh it's works again. maybe the homepage is too heavy to load?

Vaska A / 2013-02-01 18:42:24

I clicked through every single page and it didn't happen once...

I wonder if your home has a weak net connection? Does it happen on other sites?

adeline / 2013-02-02 13:11:02

no it doesn't do that on other websites, and my friends had the same problem only for my homepage.
I guess I can't really do anything and hope for the best, well thank you!

Vaska A / 2013-02-02 15:02:21

On one of the problem pages, refresh it a number of times - does it persist on that one page?

Otherwise, what happens is that hosts oversell things. You could be on a database that is overused - you could move to another one. Unfortunately, I have had this problem myself on some hosts. Indexhibit is pretty light on the database itself.

Ok sothis morning I really looked dumb because I had an appointement and the website would not work, even when I refreshed. Right after I call a friend so he tried my website and it worked fine. another friend told me it did not work, it's really beeing weird. when I contacted Ovh , i exactly told them what you just told me and they say it was because i put 777 , which i changed. The women did not seems to know so much though

Vaska A / 2013-02-05 12:56:45

So, now it's good? It's weird that it would be so wobbly because of permissions - normally it would simply not work. I'm not sure if I believe her explanation...

adeline / 2013-02-05 12:58:57

no, I changed it and it's still beeing weird

adeline / 2013-02-11 18:08:49

Ok I think I figured when it was working and when it wasnt : if I type in without the www it wont work, so if i google my website and click on the first link, it wont work. But if I actually type adelinemai.com, it works. Do you know how I should fix that? Thanks!

Vaska A / 2013-02-11 20:00:36

That's really odd. It is a hosting or DNS issue. Ask your host if they know why it is behaving that way and how to fix. If they say 'no'...then it must be a DNS issue.
