Images 'upload', but don't appear

MRPW / 2013-02-11 16:14:48

Was wondering if I could get some help here,

Basically when I go to upload an image it successfully 'uploads' but the thumbnail does not appear - the little 'disconnected image' icon shows up...

I have also recently gotten an email from Google saying the bots can't access my site... What's the deal.

So far I have checked the permissions of the key folders , they were 755 (which I know is okay) but I tried to change them to 777, same problem.. anyways. I am not very good at trouble shooting this sort of thing...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is a bot? I have no idea 'what the deal' is about that either. Did you ask Google to explain?

What is your site?

Alright, I figured out the first problem.. There must have been something wrong with the JPGs I was trying to upload... - a PNG seems to work fine.. (I thought there was an error in connecting indexhibit with to my host)

From Google Email

"Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 1 errors while attempting to connect to your site. Your site's overall connection failure rate is 50.0%.

You can see more details about these errors in Webmaster Tools.

Recommended action

Verify that the web service software for your site is installed and running properly.
Verify that your firewall or server are not blocking googlebot's access to your site.
Verify that all scripts that run on your site have proper permissions to run.
Verify that your site has proper permissions to access the pages of your site.
Using Webmaster Tools, find a day with a high error rate and examine the logs for your web server for that day. Look for errors in the logs for that day and fix the causes of those errors.
Your site may be overloaded. Talk with your hosting provider about either reconfiguring your web server or allocating more resources to your web server.
If your site redirects to another hostname, another possible explanation is that a URL on your site is redirecting to a hostname that has one or more of the problems listed above."

I guess I will try these options?

That's really odd that they would send you a note like that. My guess is that your site was simply having a hiccup or it was offline temporarily because of backing up. If it persists you might think about doing something but I wouldn't worry about it.

1 connection errors is nothing in the bigger scheme of things. ;)

Alright, so I STILL can't upload images... that png just randomly worked.. I am really getting annoyed now.. I have tried exporting these files in ALL different types of formats.. they all 'upload' but only a small icon appears, and the image is not there!!!

ARGHH

How big are your files? It worked before...so what happened to the server?

I've seen weird things happen before with hosts. It might be as simple as them rebooting it but it will probably take an exorcism to get them to do that. ;)

You have messed up your site too - I'm seeing double output of the html for your site. Just look at the source code...

Whoa, it's outputting both v1 and v2 at the same time! How did you do that?

MRPW / 2013-02-11 20:20:50

:O

MRPW / 2013-02-11 20:21:05

Hax......

(I have no idea...)

MRPW / 2013-02-11 20:22:06

So how do I fix .. that?

Vaska A / 2013-02-11 20:26:29

I don't really know - how did you do that? I didn't think it was possible...

I would reupload the root index.php for starters. Make sure that the .htaccess file didn't have additional rules than the default. Check to your templates to make sure only the necessary code is there.

That's a place to begin...

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:02:17

If I re upload root index.php will it change any of my main settings?

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:02:24

Should I backup?

Vaska A / 2013-02-11 21:03:35

Absolutely, you should always backup.

No, the index.php is not going to change settings.

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:05:15

Thanks.

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:11:56

How do I check this .htaaccess file?
Is there a tutorial that explains how the default rules should be set?

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:20:18

ahh - 744

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:23:25

Well I checked all of those things.. I am not sure.. what's going on ...

(ps. I still cant seem to upload those images...)

MRPW / 2013-02-11 21:25:46

philwilson.ca/files/…

When I went to copy this file, the files I was trying to upload into the project were present.. and I downloaded one and saw it perfectly.. but for some reasons it can't be viewed on my site?

!?

arsondpi / 2013-02-11 21:35:51

Check if you have a gimgs and a dimgs folder inside the files folder (and that they have the correct permissions as well)

MRPW / 2013-02-12 14:36:20

Yeap, they were 777, and I changed them to 755 '(It's safer)',

Should be fine?
..But still not working

MRPW / 2013-02-12 18:50:39

Alright, so I THOUGHT I figured it out, the filenames can't have # , (which totally makes sense now)

But even still, now the thumbnails on the editor page have grey backgrounds with Xs... still no images.. !?

This thread has been closed, thank you.
