Website down!

maryamsg / 2013-02-11 16:58:49

When I navigate to my website, only the following error messages occur:
"Page not found error here.
Warning: filesize() [function.filesize]: stat failed for /home/avery/public_html/ndxz-studio/site//index.php in /home/avery/public_html/index.php on line 81

Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/avery/public_html/index.php on line 81

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/avery/public_html/index.php on line 82"

I am very worried that the website has been lost. It represents two years of work and would be a disaster if lost. Furthermore, the website is needed now for a pending project. Please help!

P.S. I am very novice at website design, so please explain answers in detail for a novice to understand. Thank you!

You deleted a section didn't you - it warns against doing that.

You can resolve things with a little work in the databse. My guess is that you need to fix the 'main' page of the site and it's url (should be /). It's not the first time we've seen this happen...the old version of Indexhibit does have some difficulties this way.

I absolutely did not delete anything; in fact, as I posted in a different thread, I have not even been able to sign in because it's telling me my password is incorrect.

maryamsg / 2013-02-11 17:20:50

I still have no idea how to resolve this problem.

There are 2 reset scripts - one for the early version which is what you have and reset2 which is for the new one. You used v2...let's hope it has not messed things up.

Try the correct one and see how it goes...

Aside from that, and manually editing your database, there isn't much more that we'll be able to do for you.

You are saying my website is lost? I actually tried the old reset first. Then I tried reset2.

Vaska A / 2013-02-11 17:27:28

Why would you try 2? Oh geez...

I'm saying you will need to edit the database manually if there is any chance of saving it. We rarely ever need to do this (and I don't like having to do it), but you can hire us to fix the database (if it's even savable - 50 euros/hour).

May I ask why you are being rude?

Vaska A / 2013-02-11 17:29:39

How am I being rude?

Trying to use the wrong reset script is not a good idea.

As I explained, I am a novice. I was told by a friend that indexhibit is quite user-friendly and encouraged me to try. I have used it for two years without a problem. All of a sudden, my website went down. I had not edited it in at least a month, so there was no deleting that was done. I tried to sign into the site and it told me my username and password were incorrect. Then I made the mistake you are ridiculing me for ("Why would you try 2? oh geez..."). But in fact the problems occurred before I tried reset2 (which I tried because I was not sure which version I had, legacy or 2).

This is a website that represents two years of work. It would be nice to deal with someone who can be sympathetic to the stress of facing a potential loss of two years of work - especially a loss that seems to have occurred before I interfered at all. Will you be the person to whom 50 euros/hr is paid?

Ridiculing and being very worried are two very different things.

I think you need to calm down. I'm not really sure what else to say at this point because I'm sure it will only make things worse.

Actually, I think it's best that you ask around to your friends to find somebody who can help fix the database (if you can't try yourself). I don't feel right taking money for this kind of thing under the circumstances. I rarely ever need to offer this service because luckily most people can find a way to resolve things via our forum - I think it was a mistake to mention it.

maryamsg / 2013-02-11 18:00:23

I am in an urgent situation, I did not do anything to the website prior to it crashing, and now what I need is to know exactly how to save the website. So far, I see the directive that I will need to edit manually the database but no further instruction. Are you able to describe to me what manual edits are required? Or will I need to hire you or someone at indexhibit at 50 euros/hr to help?

maryamsg / 2013-02-11 18:02:51

* by further instruction, I mean, for example, how or where to find the main page for editing in the ndxz folder...?

maryamsg / 2013-02-11 18:12:03

If you cannot help, would you be able to explain how it is that such error messages would occur if I had not edited the site myself? Is it possible it was hacked or something of that nature?

We do help out around here (I have been doing this for six years now) and there is a way to do things. You have a free cms which we are happy to support and I am helping you for free in this forum (which became an unsustainable model for this project so we had to change). The first thing to do is say 'how do I do that?' instead of making this personal. Things do go wrong sometimes - and I am quite certain that you dinged up your database by using the wrong reset script.

This thread has been closed, thank you.
