I opened the to the uploading window and 'add files' and 'upload' do the same function. They open up a browse window. So all I can do is press cancel.

Can you try a different browser? Just so to verify that it's not a browser cache issue... You can also try holding down the shift button and hitting refresh a few times...
it wasn't working on firefox but for some reason its working on safari

There are a variety of fixes for firefox (indexhibit.org/forum/search/) but their not working for the latest firefox versions.
