Visual index thumbnail shape

rtdesigns / 2013-10-23 13:39:23

Hi,

I want to change the shape of the visual index thumbnails to get a list of wide but thin images (1000px wide x 200px high). However, no matter what i change in the visual index format nothing seems to work. It seems to work if i use the 'natural' option but then I get massive gaps between each thumbnail?

what am i looking for here? i don't see one that is using visual index...

The homepage (which is the 'projects' page) has a visual index of 4 images, that link to the various project pages. Each of the images on the homepage has a massive gap in between each one which i can't seem to reduce. Am I not right in calling that visual index? Its called that in the exhibit settings for that page.

Why would you want the images to be 1000px wide as thumbnails? Visual Index is intended for thumbnails.

Maybe you want to be using Over and Over instead?

And yes, the 'natural' setting uses the real proportions but because they are so big it's creating other problems. You might try 16:9. Or, you can upload 'cover' images for the thumbnails...

what I am trying to create is an 'overview' project page, that gives a thumbnail of all my projects, that link to each of the individual project pages. Is visual index not the right tool to use for this purpose? Can over and over be set so that images link to other exhibits?

Why are your thumbnails so big though? That's not how visual index works...

Am I missing something here...

Did you customize options.php to make thumbnails that are 1000px wide?

Yeh I changes the size within the options, but the ratio of the thumbnails stay the same, I am basically just trying to find a way to elongate the thumbnails proportions.
Perhaps me calling them 'thumbnails' is what is confusing.

In simple terms, I just want to set up a home page with a column of 1000px x 200px images; one of each project, that link to the individual project exhibits.

Is that possible?

It's a rather unusual approach - I haven't seen that before and Visual Index doesn't work that way. Height and common proportion of the thumbnail is very important.

You will need to either customize Visual Index to suit your needs (which is a complex format) or just create the html manually for the index page.
