sorry if this has been answered i looked around with no luck,
I'm hoping to find a way so that when you click on a section instead of having a drop down menu with the index's.
to have it take you to a page with a gallery view with thumbnails to take you to the index instead.

Disable the Indexpand plugin (or the, outdated, Expanding menus for that matter)
Edit the section with the exhibits that you want to display as linked thumbnails
Click on Exhibit options
Set Visual Index as Exhibit Format
Set Section as the Media Source
Voila!
