are in place, permissions switched to 644.

Yep - I get a 500 Error when the server looks for laurenivard.com/ndxzsite/plugin/…
So I suggest to tell/ask your host about this.

Try ajax.php with 777 and 755 and see if one of them work.

Here is the reply I received from the technical support:
‘We have checked and found no Mod-Security rules triggered for the domain laurenivard.com. It seems to be coding/scripting issue.’

It's a permissions issue or a mod_security issue - plain and simple.
