changing to new address

bradthrashin / 2009-01-22 01:52:21

Ok I built my whole site with one address and now I want to move it to a new one. Like a fool.

Do I just take all the files out of the httpdocs folder from the one and put them on the new sites ftp?

Im just getting started and trying to think what problems might i run into.

Well, you'll initially need to backup/copy the following: -

Files and folders (including their contents): -
ndxz-studio/
files/
index.php

(don't forget your .htaccess and robots.txt files if you have or need them...).
Also, Make sure to temporarily disable clean URLs if your uncertain of your new web hosts specs.

MySQL database/tables: -
This part will possibly be trickier if your a newbie. I would suggest contacting your web host for backup advice before proceeding.

...on the other hand...

If you purchased this new domain with your current web host, you should be able to simply point it to your current web space. Again, consult your web host.

Well I finaly got around to doing this. It hasn't worked like expected, maybe I am missing something. Here is my new site: www.outforaction.com I moved everything (i think) that had to do with indexhibit from my old site www.shapescolorssounds.com to the new one just using ftp.

I thought if I did that the exhibits would automatically exist on the new server and at the new address....Am I missing something in regards to that?

arsondpi / 2009-05-19 05:38:03

...how about moving your database (which is the actual content)...
...then activate your theme... etc etc...

You read LeslieOAs references right?

bradthrashin / 2009-05-19 23:03:48

I dont know how to move my database. I used the same company for hosting both sites and have all the content still on the old site. I took all the files and backed them up, then uploaded them to the new ftp.

I assumed if i put all the files from the old site on the new one including every file related to indexhibit it would find it.

I'm not sure what Im doing wrong.

Oh I read her references too, I dont think they pertained to this though.

In theory if I used indexhibit for the old site and just moved the entire sites contents to the new ftp it should have worked right? Are there any files that i might need to change an address in to point at the new site?

Thanks for any help, I might just start from scratch but I did do a lot of fiddling with the css of the old site that i'd like to keep in place on this one.
