XX We cannot connect or install the

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:04:36

I am trying to install Indexhibit.

I follow the installation instructions precisely, change the 'files', 'gimgs' and 'config' folders permissions to 777.

I then feed in:
Exhibition name - anything
Database host, name, username and password as supplied by my host.

I keep getting the response: XX We cannot connect or install the database.

Does anyone have the solution for this, it is driving me mad! There doesn't seem to be a solution in the forum threads.

Many thanks,

Richard

Who is your host?

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:05:47

Plus,

I keep getting the folloowing message come back:

'You need to delete the /ndxz-studio/config/config.php file if you wish to install Indexhibit.'

Any help?

Thanks

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:06:04

Host is Fasthosts.co.uk

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 12:06:14

What is your site?

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:07:19

It will be www.nattie-b.com

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 12:10:29

From what I can see technically the installation already happened. But, it was not successful. What you need to do is this...

- delete the TABLES from your database (your host provides PHPMyAdmin for this purpose). only the TABLES...not the entire database...

- delete the /ndxz-studio/config/config.php file

- redo the installation

It will work on Fasthosts but I have seen and heard of issues with them - basically their servers are extremely busy and in situations like this one it's possible that an installation might not be successful. It will work, just need to give it another try...

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:15:08

Hello Vaska,

According to the database, there are 'No tables found in database'?

Rich

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:17:37

And when i do this, the application re-installs the ndxz-studio/config/config.php each time?

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:21:27

Do i also need to delete:     config.example.php from the config file?

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 12:23:51

Ok, it's great that there are no tables...it means exactly what I said...something went wrong with the install.

Yes, it creates the config.php file when you install. If that file exists it will not let you reinstall - it's a security precaution.

No, the config.example.php is no bother...

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:27:00

OK, so what next, i have done everything and the application won't install?

I have tried 5 more times, deleting the config file each time, each time i get:

XX We cannot connect or install the database.

Thanks

Rich

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 12:35:46

Don't really know. There are many people using that host just fine...the installer does work very well with the correct information.

I have done installations on that host myself without problems...

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:38:43

Hello,

Do i have to change the permissions of the install folder to 777 also?

Thanks

Rich / 2009-09-27 12:41:35

And, the folders are all in a directory called: root /htdocs

Do they have to be in the root directory?

Cheers,

Rich

PS. The info is exactly as Fasthosts have given me.

Any ideas on the above?

Rich

All sounds right to me...doesn't look like it's going to work. No idea why if the info is truly correct.

Hi! i´m having the same problem
I follow the installation instructions precisely, change the 'files', 'gimgs' and 'config' folders permissions to 777.

I then feed in:
Exhibition name - anything
Database host, name, username and password as supplied by my host.
(the Database Server is the same as the Host Name? i´m not sure in this point)
I keep getting the response: XX Please check your config settings again

My site is www.boocles.org and my host is godaddy.

Many thanks!!

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 13:29:57

Guys, I have installed multiple times on these hosts without problems.

If you are 100% sure about all the connection info then I really don't know what to tell you...but I've never had a problem myself and many many others are on these hosts already (not installed by me).

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 13:36:51

Hey, Rick got that one installed...hopefully he'll share how he did it. ;)

boocless / 2009-09-27 14:18:50

Can you tell me if the Database Server is the same as the Host Name? i´m not sure in this point
thanx!

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 14:37:04

Probably the same - it's hard to say since all the hosts have different names for these things. Usually it's called a 'database host'.

boocless / 2009-09-27 16:15:50

I have this information: booocles.db.3009732.hostedresource.com

Is this for the "database server" field

thanx again!

Vaska A / 2009-09-27 16:17:42

Yes, that looks right. Be sure you also have the correct database name, login name and password too. Oftentimes the database name and login name are the same (but I'm not sure about your host - can't remember).

boocless / 2009-09-30 17:17:52

I create another database and now it´s work!! :D seems like something was wrong before.
Thanx!

Vaska A / 2009-09-30 17:21:43

Yeah, I've seen this before on Godaddy. I have no explanation for it myself...but at least 4 times now I've seen people go through things that way. It has something to do with the database permissions but it's not really clear.

Glad you have it rolling now.

Wackysparkle / 2009-10-20 20:17:56

Hi there,

I'm having the same problem with fasthost :( Can I ask if you managed to resolve the situation? Did you just have to be patient and try again later?

Thankies,
Wackysparkle

Holly / 2009-10-21 15:50:56

Hello,

I found this thread when struggling with installing on Fasthosts. I'm not sure if anyone in this thread has fixed their problem but I have (I think) solved the issue with Fasthosts.co.uk.

Once you have set up the database you must then go to your fasthost admin area and;
> go to 'database' where your list of dbs are
> click on the database name in the list
> click 'add user'
> type in a brand new username then tick the box that says "Give this user administrator privileges "

Then use that new username and new password you set along with the database server IP address when installing.

That solved it for me, hope it helps!

Wackysparkle / 2009-10-21 19:39:19

:D That worked!! Thanks so much for that!

barbarella / 2009-11-15 12:01:03

I had trouble with config settings using Fasthosts too.

Then I realised that what they describe as the server name isn't what indexhibit is after. When Indexhibit asks for the Server Name you need to give it the Server IP Address. Finally sunk in that after reading Holly's post a dozen times. Thanks for the assist

wfsean / 2011-10-26 18:03:46

I was able to solve the "We cannot connect or install the database." error on a MySQL 5.5 host by changing line 54 in install.php from this...

  1.     $isam = 'TYPE=MyISAM';

... to this ...

  1.     $isam = 'ENGINE=MyISAM';

Hope that helps!
