Indexhibit and Flash

Vaska A / 2009-09-28 05:17:38

Over the years I've been asked a few times to write a Flash frontend template for Indexhibit. Unfortunately, Flash is not my expertise so it would have taken a considerable amount of time.

But the guys over apdev recently did just this. We'll let the link speak for itself:

Flash frontend for Indexhibit CMS

This is a double post because I know people search the forum for Flash info from time to time - it originally appeared in our blog.

Hi – is there a faq for installing a configuration of this source code? I am not sure how to start with the indexhibit distribution or database and test this out in development. Would sure appreciate some pointers. thanks
Will

The how-to install this.

Note :
For those of you who are not that much into flash/flex and never used the flex compiler before I am currently working on a FLA-file that will also compile the example (stay tuned).

So, I won't personnaly try this before the FLA-file.
Too far from where I am in prog stuff…

;)

The guys who created this are really cool. I think if you try asking a question in one of the pertinent threads on their site they might have some help for you.

If not...let us know.

I hope in the future we can answer questions here on this topic as well.

hey.
i just uploaded the new sources - including a FLA file for the use with Flash CS3/CS4. so anybody should be able and compile it ... unfortunately changes things in the example is still hard because of the framework overhead. i'm currently working on an easier-to-use-and-customize version.

really happy that you like the example :)

if you have any questions or suggestions, just drop us a line - maybe we can help.

cheers. phil.

*** edit ***
just saw, that I can't even write my own name :D
but wtf ...

Vaska A / 2009-10-13 10:48:37

I'm going to stick this at the top of the forum for a bit...

Thanks alot Phil for posting about the update.

mscottphotography / 2009-10-15 18:21:27

I downloaded it... Opened up the FLA file, and... Nothing. Not really sure what I am missing here.

Vaska A / 2009-10-15 18:22:28

Did you read through their website? Have you ever look at Flash before?

mscottphotography / 2009-10-16 00:34:32

Yeah, I think it's a little above me... Sorry for coming off rude, when I can't figure something out, I obsess over it, and so on... But I do have a good knowledge of flash, I am just having trouble figuring out how it really interacts with indexhibit... It looks like an awesome idea. I just need to study some more... Here comes my OCD!!

paulbarbato / 2009-10-17 01:29:44

sorry but is this "the new update" or merely an another cool thing somebody has conjured?

either way its cool..just wondering!

Vaska A / 2009-10-17 10:12:46

yes, it's just flash on top of the current version - it's not a new version of indexhibit.

Un peu d'aide ? En français :-)
si quelque me voit ....

Je cherche à installer ce thème flash frontend, mais je n'y arrive,
je ne comprends pas vraiment comment l'installer ...

Question, pénible, excusez-moi !

pykeck / 2009-10-22 22:53:52

sorry jfarchi but my french is to bad to write an actual install manual.

1) install indexhibit on your server
2) download the zip form our blog and put the content of the bin-folder it in your web-root directory
3) now you have to change the server-url in the Constants.class to get the example connecting to your server instead of our
4) voilà ... done.

i'm currently working on an easier-to-understand example for those of you that are not that much into flash-programming. i hope to release it tomorrow ... no promises made ;)

cheers
phil

here comes the update ...

Super simple Flash example of the Indexhibit frontend

cheers, phil

Super thanks man ! It will be easyer for "non-coders" we are.
Thanks again.

Vaska A / 2009-10-24 16:18:52
