installation failure

hi indexhibit-

i have been reviewing the help forum carefully to see if anything that has been written is the problem i'm experiencing. when i go to my site, www.foxtracks.net, or http://www.foxtracks.net/ndxz-studio/install.php, the imagery on the page is from network solutions, the company i bought the domain from. it is not blank, nor is there an error message. simply a lot of bogus advertising and the name of my site: "coming soon". did i not upload indexhibit to the right place? i am using fetch and placed it in the "public.htm" folder. am i not using the databases the way i should be? i have done all the neccessary changes to files and permissions as instructed. all i can think is there's a loose connection somewhere -- the indexhibit file needs to be moved to another place, or something? any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

all the best,
charlotte

public.htm can't be a folder, it's a file.
You have to upload indexhibit to the root of your web-space,
by default it's the /www folder.

simon,

thanks for answering my question. do i upload indexhibit to the root of my web space through my ftp program (fetch) or through my website (with this thing called cPanel)? when you "put" a file or folder, is that the same as uploading?

thanks so much,

charlotte

You need to upload indexhibit trough your ftp program.

okay,

so i am now on page two of installing and am getting the "XX check your config settings again" message. i made databases via cPanel, and typed in all the info. i tried putting "http://localhost" instead of just localhost but it didn't change the results.

here is some text that appears on my database page of cPanel. not too sure what it means, or if this code has something to do with it:

Connection Strings
Perl$dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:foxtrack_works:localhost","foxtrack_cxcs","");
PHP$dbh=mysql_connect ("localhost", "foxtrack_cxcs", "") or die ('I cannot connect to the database because: ' . mysql_error());
mysql_select_db ("foxtrack_works");

thank you for being so helpful.

Note "http://localhost" but just "localhost".

Did you add yourself as a user of the database? You need to do that in Cpanel.

Wish it could be more simple...but it's not really possible with all the different server setups out there.

hello there,

yes, i am beginning to understand the complexity of each individual's set up, due to the varying servers. but i think the work that's gone into indexhibit is still all worth it!! bravo.

okay, thanks for the clarification on the server being "localhost", not "http://localhost". yes, i added myself as a user. my database is called "works" and my username is "cxcs". i did this in cPanel -- but still i am getting the xx config settings message. is cPanel not registering my database? do i need to call my hosting company? because consequently when i go to my domain the message on the page is : "database not installed"

thanks. over and out.
