Edit CSS

Hi!

I'ma little new to the html thing and have so far got a page up. Just wondering where exactly do you

1) FIND the CSS sheet to edit?
2) HOW do you edit it?

Is it that I download the CSS sheet from Cyberduck FTP and edit it in DreamWeaver then place it back in the FTP? OR I have found the Sample Style.css on my site but can't edit it. I haven't been able to locate a similar thread in the forum as yet. Would like to add padding / change type / make margins for nav.

If anyone can help that would be great. Thank you!

Sorry I used caps there!! Didn't realise it, I know its prohibited by the Forum Rules. Appologies. :)

In the Useful Threads post (look for the red links) there is info about how to find your stylesheet.

There are many threads around here about editing CSS. I wouldn't recommend Dreamweaver...something more simple and text-based will be good enough.

Hi Vaska,

Thanks for that. Maybe I'll use text edit?

After persevering through the forum I found the very helpful thread about the Firebug in HTML/CSS Basics Thread which I'm exploring at the moment. If anything it helps me see what exactly is going on!

Thanks :)

Hi NMcM,

I fell a bot at your point. I went into this field through Indexhibit, and feel the needing of learning the basics. It happens to me something similar than to you. I understand I should edit something of the files they talk about, I started to undrestand how the language goes through the tutorials about css or html, etc, but...... hhhooowww, do you customize those archives? I read carefully lots of times the few threads about it, and the farest I went is:

What we should modify is in the FTP thing, in my case at Cyberduck. I realized and found the archives they talk about, and the farest I get is to double click on them and see that there is an option that says 'Edit With >' and after that I see that 'there is no external editor available'.

On the other hand, I downloaded an editor (called TextWrangler) and opened the style.css file from outside the FTP, and It opens, you can see there all what they talk about, and also modify it (customize?).

Then, If I can modify that same file from out the FTP, why I cannot even open the one wich it is inside the ftp.

But we are getting closer.
By the way, I am still stopped in something dummier, I cannot do new sections or exhibitions on my site. So I still have only two, the ones from the beggining. I wish somebody could help me with this.

Good luck and thanks,

kenneth
