Working Offline

Hi, I am thinking of using indexhibit to customise a website. I've not had any experience with building websites before so I was hoping somebody could help answer a query.

I was wondering how it all works with regards to building the website and archiving all the coding. Ideally I would like to build the site offline on my local c drive, then once it's looking ok, upload it to my webspace via FTP. That way I know I've got a backup of everything.

Is this possible or does indexhibit only work online?

Thanks,

Mark

Yea that´s possible, but you´ll need a local server and database, look into WAMP on windows or MAMP on mac for an easy way to set this up.

Or, even better, on the Mac just use the built-in PHP setup. If you know how to manage these things on your own computer you can do local development...but you do need to know how. Both WAMP (but Indexhibit does not run on Windows servers) and MAMP have alot of other issues you will need to deal with...

Thanks for the quick replies. I am working with Windows XP and a HP server (is that what you meant by windows server? Will i be ok with HP server?)
Our office already uses PHP and mySQL4 for their old website I think, so I might not be too far off what I need.

No, will not work on a Windows XP setup...must be Linux/Apache.

Ahh i understand now. We have apache set up already so should be good to go. Is this correct? (Sorry to be a pain)
